What is Body Mass Index?
Body Mass Index is a general means for calculating body composition. It is appropriate for assessing body fat for average, or overweight individuals, and is the preferred method for assessing body composition in obese individuals whose skinfold assessments become inaccurate.
Body Mass index is not an appropriate body fat assessment tool for those who are lean and muscular like athletes or bodybuilders.
Skinfold testing with body fat calipers and an experienced tester is a more accurate way to test body fat, especially in athletes or individuals who have more muscle and less fat.
